1962 – 2025

Foundation and Early Years (1962)

Atticall GAC was founded in 1962, thanks to the enthusiasm of local sportspeople and the generosity of the community. The club initially relied on various borrowed fields for training and matches, including notable locations like ‘Grant’s Field,’ ‘Big Danny’s Field, ‘Maginn’s Field’ and ‘Doran’s Field.’ These fields also hosted community events, such as the Annual Sports Day.

Transition to ‘The Boley’s’

Over time, the club began using ‘The Boley’s’ as its regular playing field. This marked a significant milestone as it was the first field equipped with goalposts. However, its uneven surface posed challenges for competitive play, prompting the club to temporarily relocate to ‘Doran’s Field.’ During this period, efforts began to secure a permanent home for the club.

Holy Cross Park (1971)

In 1971, Atticall GAC achieved a major milestone by inaugurating Holy Cross Park, their first permanent field. This dedicated space provided the stability and facilities necessary for the club to thrive.

Development and Expansion

Over the past 50 years, Holy Cross Park has undergone significant development, purchasing & developing further ground & obtaining a clubhouse building in the early 1970s. Development continued with an extension to the clubhouse added & the official opening of the Community Centre in 1998. However Atticall faced a huge setback, losing the clubhouse building & it’s contents, including a large amount of photographs & memorabilia being completely destroyed in a devasting arson attack in 2001. The club continued to drive forward & fundraise which allowed us to open the doors of our current clubrooms in 2013.

Holy Cross Park Today

Atticall GAC has continuously worked to enhance its facilities, ensuring that the park meets the evolving needs of players and the community. Currently Holy Cross Park is  measured at approx 14 acres & home to 2 full size pitches, a training field, a community centre and a state of the art clubhouse with changing facilities, a gym, social club & function room.
